INTRODUCTION

On September 06 2017, the School for Information and Knowledge Systems (SIKS) organizes its annual SIKS-day. The location will be City Castle Oudaen in Utrecht.

The main aim of the event is to give SIKS-members, participating in research groups all over the country, the opportunity to meet each other in an informal setting and to inform them about current developments and some new activities and plans for the coming year.

Many of you have probably already heard the news: Prof.dr. Arno Siebes (UU) has been appointed scientific director of SIKS by the Board of Governors in a recent meeting. He takes over the job from Prof.dr. Paul De Bra (TU/e) who has held the position for a period of six years. Of course, this important 'changing of the guard' will not go unnoticed at the SIKS-day 2017. At this event we will give all members the opportunity to thank Paul for the important work he has done for SIKS and to welcome Arno.

In addition we will pay attention to the fact that the Board of Governors has appointed two new honorary members: Prof.dr. Hans Akkermans (VU) and Prof.dr. Jaap van den Herik (UL). Both kindly agreed to prepare a short presentation on this occasion.
